Flagstone Suburb Guide: Planning, Growth, and Infrastructure in Logan City

Suburban Queensland street with modern two-storey houses and established landscaping

Flagstone is a major greenfield growth suburb in the City of Logan, Queensland (postcode 4280), situated approximately 45 kilometres south-west of the Brisbane CBD and 15 kilometres west of Jimboomba. Greenfield development describes the process of planning and constructing complete residential communities on previously undeveloped land, contrasting with infill development in established urban zones.

The Greater Flagstone Priority Development Area

Flagstone is designated the Greater Flagstone Priority Development Area (PDA) by Economic Development Queensland (EDQ), declared on 8 October 2010 and spanning approximately 7,188 hectares. EDQ governs land use zoning, civil infrastructure requirements, environmental protection areas and precinct design standards across the PDA, coordinating road and utility delivery alongside residential land releases.

Master Planning and the City Centre

Peet Limited is the primary developer coordinating Flagstone’s master-planned rollout, including residential precincts, parks, open space networks and town centre amenities. A central component of the plan is a dedicated 100-hectare City Centre, intended as the commercial, retail and civic hub for the surrounding residential development.

Demographic and Housing Profile

According to the 2021 ABS Census (recorded under Suburb and Locality code SAL31012), Flagstone had a population of 10,830 with a median age of 29. Family households made up 85.2% of all households, and 98.4% of occupied private dwellings were single detached houses. Median weekly household income was recorded at $1,885.

Growth Projections

Under the Greater Flagstone PDA framework, the area is projected to accommodate approximately 120,000 residents across 50,000 dwellings at full development. This is a long-term planning projection, not the current population, and no confirmed timeline for reaching full build-out has been published.

Transport and Commute Options

Road access centres on Teviot Road, Pub Lane and the Mount Lindesay Highway. Logan City Council is widening sections of Teviot Road and signalising key intersections to manage growing traffic demand.

Public transport currently relies on Translink Route 535, running via Homestead Drive and Flagstone Drive to the Browns Plains Bus Interchange, where commuters transfer to onward services toward Brisbane.

The Department of Transport and Main Roads is preserving a land corridor for a future Salisbury to Beaudesert passenger rail line, with a station proposed to serve Flagstone. This project is currently in the corridor preservation and study phase and is not under construction, so it should not be treated as existing infrastructure when planning a purchase.

Schools and Education

Flagstone State School (Prep to Year 6) and Flagstone State Community College (Years 7 to 12) are both on Poinciana Drive, covering public education from Prep through Year 12 within the suburb. Early learning is available through Goodstart Early Learning Flagstone and Flagstone Early Learning Centre.

Nearby in Jimboomba, Emmaus College (Catholic, Prep to Year 12) explicitly services the Flagstone catchment, and Hills International College (independent, Prep to Year 12) offers International Baccalaureate options.

The EDQ PDA structure plan has reserved land for future primary and secondary school sites to accommodate population growth over a 20 to 30 year horizon.

Parks and Recreation

Flagstone Regional Park is the centrepiece of the suburb’s open space network, featuring an 11-metre climb tower and mega slides. The Flagstone Water Play Park is a free, zero-depth water play area with waterfalls and dump buckets, with operating hours maintained by Logan City Council. The suburb also has a dedicated Ninja Competition Park, a themed Pirate Ship Park for younger children, and designated dog parks.
