Queensland homeowners approved for flood-resilience grants under the original Stronger Homes Grant Program must have their works finished and paid for by 30 September 2026, a hard deadline now just three weeks away.
What Happened
The Queensland Reconstruction Authority’s Stronger Homes Grant Program offers up to $10,000 to help flood-affected homeowners raise essential services, such as switchboards, hot water systems and air-conditioning units, above flood height. For the original North and Far North Queensland cohort, approved works must be completed and paid in full by 30 September 2026.
Why It Matters
This is real money at stake for a defined group of approved applicants. Missing the completion deadline risks losing grant funding that has already been approved, at a point where works may already be underway or booked in with a contractor.
Who Is Affected
Flood-affected Queensland homeowners in North and Far North Queensland local government areas who hold an approved application under the original Stronger Homes Grant Program tranche. Applications for this original tranche closed on 31 December 2025, or when funding was exhausted.
It is worth being clear that a separate, later-added expanded program, covering Barcoo, Bulloo, Bundaberg, Isaac, Rockhampton, Quilpie and Western Downs, has a different and later works-completion deadline of 30 June 2027. The 30 September 2026 deadline applies specifically to the original North and Far North Queensland cohort, not to this expanded group.
What to Do / What to Watch
If you have an approved application under the original tranche, confirm directly with your contractor that both the works and full payment will be finalised before 30 September 2026. If a delay looks likely, contact the Queensland Reconstruction Authority as soon as possible rather than waiting until the deadline passes.
