South East Queensland covers a lot of ground, from inner Brisbane to the Gold Coast hinterland, and the differences between regions are bigger than the phrase “South East Queensland” suggests.
If you are moving from interstate or overseas, it is worth researching a few things before settling on an area: how far you would realistically need to commute, what the mix of housing types actually looks like in the areas you are considering, and what the climate and lifestyle differences are compared to where you are moving from. Queensland’s climate, seasons and outdoor lifestyle can take some adjusting to if you are coming from a cooler or more indoor-oriented part of the world.
Schools, healthcare and transport infrastructure vary meaningfully between regions, and it is worth checking these directly for the specific areas you are considering rather than assuming they are consistent across the whole region. The same applies to commute times, which can vary a lot depending on which side of a river, highway or rail line you end up on.
It also helps to visit before committing where possible, or at least to spend time researching an area beyond real estate listings, since a suburb’s lifestyle and character often matter as much as the property itself.
