Rochedale is a growing outer suburb in Brisbane’s south east, master-planned around a future town centre and a new busway station that opened in 2025.
Local Context
Rochedale, in Brisbane’s south east, is worth distinguishing from Rochedale South, a separate suburb under Logan City Council rather than Brisbane. We could not find an official source giving an exact distance or direction from the CBD, so we have left that figure out. Rochedale sits near the Gateway and Pacific Motorways, with Rochedale Road, Gardner Road, Miles Platting Road, Underwood Road and Priestdale Road forming the local road grid.
Housing & Property Character
Rochedale is overwhelmingly separate houses today, with Australian Bureau of Statistics 2021 Census figures showing 91.6% of occupied private dwellings as separate houses, well above the Queensland average. Brisbane City Council’s Rochedale urban community neighbourhood plan sets out a staged mix of very low density, low density, low to medium density and mixed use residential precincts, so the area’s housing mix is expected to diversify as development continues. Given the pace of change in this suburb, the 2021 Census figures should be treated as a snapshot rather than a current picture.
Getting Around
Rochedale has no train station and is served instead by the South East Busway. A new Rochedale busway station, at the corner of Underwood Road and School Road, opened in May 2025 as part of the busway extension from Eight Mile Plains to Springwood, with around 485 park and ride spaces, a kiss and ride area and undercover bicycle storage. Specific bus route numbers were not reliably confirmed in our research, so it is worth checking Translink’s journey planner for the current service.
Schools & Education
Rochedale State School operates under an equidistant catchment area, with its enrolment management plan gazetted in August 2025 and a maximum capacity of 1,155 students. Rochedale State High School serves Years 7 to 12. As always, the Queensland Government’s EdMap tool is the way to confirm which school applies to a specific address, since Rochedale and neighbouring Rochedale South can be easy to conflate.
Shopping & Everyday Services
Brisbane City Council’s neighbourhood plan designates a Town Centre precinct as the main commercial centre for Rochedale, intended to include at least one supermarket and supporting shops, built around a town square and park and developed in stages. We could not confirm an official source naming a specific, already-built shopping centre, so this should be treated as a staged, still-developing precinct rather than an established retail strip.
Parks & Recreation
Council’s neighbourhood plan requires new development to provide district and local parks as Rochedale grows, along with waterway corridor parks along local creeks. One notable feature of the area is a landfill site within the neighbourhood plan boundary, which Council’s own documents describe as continuing to operate for now, with a possible future metropolitan park as one option once landfill activities end.
Planning & Development
Rochedale sits within the Rochedale urban community neighbourhood plan under Brisbane City Plan 2014, described in the plan itself as developing “an integrated and master-planned urban community with a mix of uses” and a range of residential types, sizes, tenure and densities. The plan includes koala habitat protections and waterway corridor requirements along Bulimba Creek and other local creeks. Given how much of Rochedale is still being developed, this is an active planning area rather than a settled one.

- How current the Town Centre and surrounding development actually is, given Rochedale is still being built out in stages.
