Camping Toilet Recalled Nationally Over Lithium Battery Fire Risk in Cold Weather

A battery-powered camping toilet sold nationally has been recalled after its battery management system was found to allow charging in cold conditions that can damage the battery and create a fire risk.

What Happened

Compo Closet Ltd has recalled its S1 Dry Flush Sealing Toilet and S1 Adapter Kit, sold nationally between 28 April and 18 September 2026. The recall notice, published 25 September 2026, explains that the unit’s battery management system fails to prevent charging when the temperature is 0°C or below, which can damage the lithium-ion battery inside.

Why It Matters

A damaged lithium-ion battery can overheat, release smoke and toxic gas, or catch fire, in any weather conditions, not only while it is cold. This creates a genuine risk of serious injury, death or property damage, particularly for caravan, camper and motorhome owners who may charge the unit overnight in cold conditions while travelling.

Who Is Affected

Households that bought the S1 Dry Flush Sealing Toilet or S1 Adapter Kit (SKU CMP-S9901-W or CMP-S9902, barcode 5065015394525 or 5065015394518) between 28 April and 18 September 2026.

What to Do / What to Watch

Stop using the unit immediately if it has ever been charged in temperatures at or below 3°C, or if you are unsure of its charging history. Disconnect and remove the lithium-ion battery. Complete the recall’s Notice Confirmation Form to arrange a free replacement battery with cold-protection features (expected available December 2026) and/or a 12V bypass cable.
