Robina Suburb Guide: What to Know Before Choosing Robina

Robina Suburb Guide: What to Know Before Choosing Robina

Robina is an inland, master-planned suburb in the City of Gold Coast local government area, in the central-southern Gold Coast. Unlike many of its neighbours, Robina isn’t a beach suburb at all. It was purpose-built from 1985 around Robina Town Centre, Cbus Super Stadium and a hospital precinct, and it borders Bond University’s Robina campus.

Population and Housing

The 2021 Census recorded 25,659 people in Robina, with a median age of 39 and 10,180 occupied dwellings, averaging 2.6 people per household. Housing is a genuine mix rather than one dominant type: 54.6% separate houses, 31.6% townhouses and 13.7% apartments.

Transport

Robina railway station, opened in 1998, sits on the Queensland Rail line running to Brisbane, and Robina Town Centre also hosts a major bus interchange, making Robina one of the better-connected inland Gold Coast suburbs for public transport.

Schools

Robina State School and Robina State High School both serve the area, with Robina State School’s enrolment management plan capacity around 973 students and Robina State High School operating a negotiated catchment with capacity around 1,577 students. As with any suburb, verify the exact catchment for a specific address using the Queensland Government’s official EdMap tool (qgso.qld.gov.au/maps/edmap), since being within a catchment area does not guarantee a place.

Health

A common myth about Robina is worth correcting directly. Robina Hospital is a confirmed public hospital, part of the Gold Coast Hospital and Health Service, not a private-only facility. Robina Private Hospital, with around 90 beds, also operates in the suburb, so residents have both public and private options close to home.

Parks and Local Life

Robina’s open space is substantial and growing. Greenheart Robina Parklands currently has 22.5 hectares open, part of a planned 257 hectare total that council describes as set to become the Gold Coast’s largest parkland, with a café under construction and reportedly due late 2026. Robina City Parklands, Robina Common and the three constructed Robina Lakes, dating from the 1980s, round out the suburb’s recreational spaces.

Shopping and Everyday Life

Robina Town Centre, a major regional shopping centre, is the suburb’s commercial heart. It is reportedly undergoing a “Market Hall” redevelopment, though buyers should treat this as a reported project rather than a confirmed scope or completion date until they’ve checked directly.

Planning and Development

Central Robina sits outside standard City Plan control, governed instead by a unique state instrument, the Robina Central Planning Agreement from 1992, under a Plan of Development framework. A Robina Central Planning Review has been underway since 2022 to modernise this arrangement. As of the most recent confirmed status, it remains in the statutory plan-making phase with adoption still pending, so treat any specific completion date you encounter elsewhere as unconfirmed. Separately, Walker Corporation’s Lakesview Robina project was approved as a State Facilitated Development, lifting council’s originally approved 1,500 dwellings to 2,750 homes near Robina Stadium, including roughly 550 affordable homes and more than 50 hectares of open space, lakes and wetlands. Part of this precinct has been reported to sit on a flood plain, which was the subject of public debate when the state approval overrode council’s density limits. This is a reason for buyers considering property near that precinct specifically to check the official flood tool for their address, not a verdict on Robina as a whole.

Flood and Property Due Diligence

Suburb-level flood information is only ever general. Before relying on any Robina property, especially one near the Lakesview precinct or the Robina Lakes, check the City of Gold Coast’s official Flood Risk Awareness Map, Flood Insurance Map and Flood Depth Map, available through the council’s flood maps page or the City Plan interactive mapping tool, for the specific address.

Nearby Suburbs Worth Comparing

Varsity Lakes, Merrimac, Mudgeeraba and Mermaid Waters are worth comparing if you are considering Robina.
